Garbage classification generally refers to a series of activities, such as classified storage, classified delivery and classified handling of garbage according to certain regulations or standards, so as to transform it into public resources. The purpose of classification is to improve the resource value and economic value of garbage, and strive to make the best use of it.

The significance of garbage classification

1. Reduce land erosion: domestic waste is not easy to degrade, causing serious land erosion. Garbage classification can reduce the amount of waste by more than 60%.

2. Reduce pollution: China's waste disposal ways mostly uses sanitary landfill or even simple landfill, which takes up more than ten thousand mu of land, and may cause that insects and flies fly around, sewage overflows, stinking, seriously polluting the environment. Waste plastics in soil will lead to crop yield reduction; abandoned waste plastics are eaten by animals, causing animal death accidents from time to time. So recycling can also reduce harm.

3. 30% ~ 40% of the domestic waste can be recycled, so we should cherish this resource with small cost and large profit. Moreover, other materials in the garbage can also be transformed into resources, such as food, plants and fabrics can be composted to produce organic fertilizer. It can be seen that the best way is to recycle the waste generated in the consumption link if it is classified in time.

Types of waste

1. Recyclable waste: recyclable waste mainly includes waste paper, plastic, glass, metal and cloth.

Waste paper: mainly including newspapers, periodicals, books, all kinds of wrapping paper, etc. However, it should be noted that tissue and toilet paper are too water-soluble to be recycled.

Plastic: plastic bags, plastic foam, plastic packaging, disposable plastic tableware, tableware, hard plastic, plastic toothbrush, plastic cups, mineral water bottles, etc.

Glass: mainly including all kinds of glass bottles, broken glass, thermos, etc. (mirror is other rubbish / dry rubbish)

Metal objects: mainly including cans, cans, etc.

Cloth: mainly including waste clothes, tablecloth, face towel, schoolbag, shoes, etc.

Through comprehensive treatment and recycling, these wastes can reduce pollution and save resources. For example, 850 kg of paper can be made by recycling 1 ton of waste paper, 300 kg of wood can be saved, 74% less pollution than equal production; 0.7 tons of secondary raw materials can be obtained by recycling 1 ton of plastic beverage bottle; 0.9 tons of steel can be made by recycling 1 ton of waste steel, 47% less cost than ore smelting, 75% less air pollution, 97% less water pollution and solid waste.

2. Other wastes: other wastes include bricks, tiles, ceramics, dregs, toilet waste paper, paper towel, dust and food bags (boxes). Sanitary landfill can effectively reduce the pollution of groundwater, surface water, soil and air.

Toilet paper: toilet paper, toilet paper dissolves in water, not recyclable "paper", similar to cigarette case, etc.

Food waste bagging: commonly used plastic bags, even biodegradable, are far more difficult to corrode than food waste. In addition, plastic bags themselves are recyclable waste. The correct way is to put the food waste into the garbage can and the plastic bag into the "recyclable garbage" can.

Shell: in waste classification, "shell melon skin" logo is peanut shell, it really belongs to kitchen waste. The waste cooking oil used at home is also classified as "kitchen waste".

Dust: in the garbage classification, dust belongs to "other garbage", but the litter belongs to "kitchen garbage", including the flowers at home.

3. Kitchen waste: kitchen waste (called wet waste in Shanghai) includes food waste such as leftovers, bones, vegetable roots, leaves, and peels. 0.6 ~ 0.7 tons of organic fertilizer can be produced per ton by on-site treatment and composting with biotechnology.

4. Hazardous waste: hazardous waste contains heavy metals, toxic substances that are harmful to human health, or wastes that cause actual or potential harm to the environment. Including batteries, fluorescent tubes, bulbs, mercury thermometers, paint barrels, some home appliances, expired drugs and containers, expired cosmetics, etc. These wastes are generally recycled or landfilled separately.

Operation process

When garbage is generated at home or at work, the public should pay attention to the following points:

1. Garbage collection: when collecting garbage ,it should be closed and classified to prevent secondary environmental pollution. After collection, it should clean the operation site, clean the waste processor. The garbage bag should be built in the trash pickup container for direct collection by non garbage compression vehicle, and it should be collected by the cleaner in a closed way.

2. Before putting in: paper should be stacked neatly as far as possible to avoid kneading; bottles and cans should be put in after the products in the container are used up as far as possible and cleaned; Food waste garbage should be put in bags and closed.

3. When placing: it should be placed in the designated place and container according to the prompts of garbage classification mark. Glass items should be handled with care to avoid damage.

4. After putting in: attention should be paid to cover the top of the garbage can to avoid pollution of the surrounding environment and breeding of mosquitoes and flies.
