With the popularization of garbage classification, more and more problems have been risen. Here I would like to introduce you some of them.
State-run garbage recycling is shrinking day by day. China is one of the first countries to propose to separate garbage collection. Take Beijing as an example: In 1965, there were more than 2,000 state-owned waste collection stations within the Second Ring Road. After the 1980s, the scale shrank severely; in 1997, there were only 16 state-owned waste collection stations within the Third Ring Road.
Scavengers have brought many problems. More than 82,000 scavengers "picked up" 930 million yuan from Beijing each year, and at the same time transformed waste into new resources, objectively reducing the burden of garbage disposal on the government, reducing garbage disposal costs by 1.8 billion yuan, and extending the life of the landfill disposal sites. However, these spontaneous scavengers are all operating without a license, lacking standards, inspections, and restraints, resulting in serious secondary pollution in the process of picking up, collecting, transporting, and processing garbage, and their own infectious disease incidence is also relatively high.
The rubbish chute has become a distress for people. Beijing is now lined with tall buildings. Garbage chute have become a neglected corner in many places. In the messy garbage chute, mosquitoes and flies are very frantic, and the scavengers are rummaging, making residents cover their noses whenever they pass by. Residents cannot escape and dare not open their doors in the hot summer. The people look forward to the implementation of new garbage collection methods.
Bagged garbage is not a long-term solution. Some places in Beijing have begun to close garbage chutes and implement regular recycling of garbage in plastic bags to reduce the bad environmental impact of garbage dumping in the open air. From February to May in 2000, Beijing organized a large-scale green consumption survey on "Developing Green Circulation and Advocating Green Consumption". The survey results show that: 89.91% of shopping bags used by consumers are reused, of which 57.05% are used as garbage bags.
Although sorted trash bins are used in some streets in Beijing, many people don't know how to sort them out and don't know what recyclable trash is. In some communities, due to the advocacy of non-governmental environmental organizations, attempts have been made to sort garbage, but the garbage trucks of the Environmental Sanitation Bureau dumped the sorted garbage together and transported it away, which seriously dampened the people’s enthusiasm for environmental protection. It can be seen that without the support of a complete re-use industrial system of organizations such as acquisition, transportation, sales, processing, and finished product markets, garbage classification cannot produce economic benefits, and it can only be a waste of time and money.
As for ourselves, we can install a waste disposer in our families to aid us to dispose trash properly. The garbage processor are able to reduce some problems of cleaning garbage and garbage removal by separating residual and household food waste, which is a reliable way pf trash pickup.
